Former manager wins $1.6 million lawsuit against Lisa Kudrow

Texas residents may remember the hit TV show 'Friends" that ran for many years and continues in syndicated reruns. One of the show's stars, Lisa Kudrow, has been ordered to pay $1.6 million to her former manager after a jury decided in his favor in a breach of contract lawsuit he filed against the actress.

Kudrow's manager from 1991 to 2007, he claimed that the actress had entered into an oral agreement with him to pay him 10 percent of money she earned while he was her manager. Kudrow still earns royalties from reruns of 'Friends" and her former manager expected a percentage of those earnings. Kudrow refused to pay him beginning in 2008, which led to this business litigation.

Kudrow's attorneys stated that as a manager, not an agent, the plaintiff was not entitled to a commission. The jury decided in favor of the manager, awarding him $1.6 million. Kudrow's attorney promises an appeal. The plaintiff's attorney says any appeal will be 'frivolous."

Kudrow was a member of the cast of 'Friends" from 1994 to 2004. She began with a salary of $13,500 per episode, but was making $1 million per episode by the end of the show's run.

Business disputes can be complicated and often large amounts of money are at stake. Like any legal process, the emotional tolls can add up as well. Business law can be particularly difficult for people to understand. Someone involved in a dispute over the terms of a contract may wish to seek the services of an attorney who has experience in business and commercial law.
